Daniel Ferman, Citywide Chair, Hillel Toronto, July 28, 2009

Daniel is a 4th year student at the Schulich School of Business at York University. While Daniel has always been active in the community, this past year he was thrown into the spotlight when he was elected president of Hillel at York University: The Centre For Jewish Campus Life. In June, Daniel began his term as the Citywide Chair of Hillel of Greater Toronto, overseeing activities on ten university and college campuses across Toronto and serving the needs of over 18,000 Jewish students. He was also elected in the highly contested and disputed York Federation of Students` election, securing one of only two opposition seats in the student government. Daniel serves on Hillel International`s Board of Directors, along with a recent appointment as an Officer of the Board of Directors for Canadian Jewish Congress. One recent article in the Canadian Jewish News mentions that Daniel “has been among the most quoted members of the Jewish community...where he remains at the centre of a storm that has galvanized Toronto’s Jewish community and mobilized Jewish students.”
